On the 8´th of March, we celebrate women and womanhood. Mothers, sisters, grandmothers, girlfriends, small girls, grown-up girls... all women of the earth alike.
In Zen Shiatsu we celebrate the feminine as an integral part of treatment always. The Mother-hand, or listening hand, the Yin aspect of our two working hands, as well as ourselves, is always in deep listening to the active. Through which we allow the parasympathetic nervous system to become predominantly engaged. A lot of stressors in our modern societies can be expressed as a form of disproportion between the Yin and the Yang. Not one of them is better than the other. They are corresponding parts of the whole and equally important.
But our modern lives oftentimes neither encourage, nor do they leave a lot of room for relaxation, disengagement, deep listening, and simply being. Which is ascribed to the feminine qualities of us and life. A deep, nourishing, thick sap in which we can rest, replenish, and be nourished and nurtured.
Most of us know being as being something; moving somewhere, doing this and that, being a good person, a busy person, an important person, or perhaps an unimportant person. All of which are the moving qualities and expressions of Life. When being is (re)introduced to our innate sense of being; our sense of self, we begin to understand what is needed for us. Our movement begins to be in communion with Yin. We might have to get introduced again and again to know our way back to healing.
Essentially Zen Shiatsu, like most eastern philosophies, and medical- healing or treatment modalities do not differentiate between things as good and bad. So too is Yang not excluded, when Yin is celebrated. It is all in the balance. One shifts to another, to another, to another in constant a movement of equilibrium.
When out of balance these movements or lack of movement may feel stronger, sometimes accompanied by a great deal of discomfort.
Through Zen Shiatsu we begin to balance the whole again so that all aspects can come into play through the movement of equilibrium, that is visible in nature as well as in ourselves.
Zen Shiatsu isn´t so much a way in which I take away anything from you, a symptom, a way of being, etc., rather it is putting you in touch with yourself so that you may generally balance and symptoms gradually dissipate.
With the allowance for us to lean into ourselves, relax, and listen.
