WHAT IS SHIATSUMASSAGE?

ORIGIN, PHILOSOPHY, QI

Shiatsu Massage has its origins in Japan and is deeply rooted in ancient Eastern philosophies and life principles. This holistic approach views the body and mind, along with all bodily functions, as inseparable parts of a unified whole. They are fundamentally influenced by the same Vital Life Energy, known as Qi (Ki), which flows through the body's meridian pathways. Understanding this energy flow is crucial for both health and well-being, forming the foundation of Shiatsu practice.

Unlike the Western approach, Shiatsu perceives health as part of a larger interconnected system of elements and forces. Health is defined by balanced energy rather than simply the absence of measurable physical symptoms. In Shiatsu, symptoms are seen as messengers of deeper imbalances, highlighting the underlying causes of the issues we face.

By embracing these principles, Shiatsu offers a comprehensive therapeutic approach, helping individuals restore harmony and balance in their lives.

Shiatsu massage is an effective treatment method that addresses specific pain issues, muscle tension, sleep disturbances, trauma-related conditions, stress, and more. Whether you choose a longer therapeutic course or a single session, you will experience:

  • Relief from pain

  • Increased space in the body

  • Greater calmness of mind

My focus is on the journey towards deeper layers and the true causes of your symptoms. Here, Shiatsu unfolds as a powerful tool for healing and balance.

When considering Shiatsu as body therapy (i.e., in a series of sessions), it’s important to understand that it is a process. For long-standing imbalances, a minimum of 3-5 treatments is recommended. These sessions address both emotional and physical challenges, contributing to your overall well-being.

~ BODY & MIND : DEEPLY CONNECTED ~

The body, mind, environment, and our lives are intricately linked, constantly influencing one another. Challenges in one of these layers directly impact other aspects of our ex. For example, physical issues such as pain can reduce mental resilience, while emotional stress can lead to physical discomfort. A demanding work environment may cause stress, and childhood trauma can create patterns and choices that perpetuate certain life circumstances.

Through the meridians, we can connect with the flow of Qi, allowing us to gain a broader understanding of a person’s overall state. Blockages, emptiness, and overactivity in the meridians manifest on various levels of our existence and can express themselves as illness, emotional imbalances, stress, burnout, and discomfort.

SHIATSU STARTS WHERE WE ARE NOT

the principle of Kyo

Two phrases that my teacher has repeated frequently resonate quite strongly: "Where were we not?" and "Back to the future.". Both point to some of the key elements and the essence of Zen Shiatsu.

"Where were we not?"; an expression of the principle of Kyo [kjo];  the empty, the hidden, the part of us where we are not, the unconscious, or that which we have moved away from. Dear child has many names.

Shiatsu starts right here!

Because it is in the parts where we are not that the cause of our symptom/imbalance lies. Kyo describes the phenomenon of the parts of us that are no longer harmoniously connected in us.

By finding and pressing the areas of the body and the meridians that are Kyo, we have the opportunity to strengthen, revitalize and bring consciousness (us) back to those parts of us with which we have fallen out of touch. This is how we ere are enabled to understand, change, re-integrate, and heal what may need healing so that our natural balance can be restored/maintained.

Shiatsu is an effective preventive treatment that continuously supports and harmonizes the body and mind and has traditionally been widely used as such.

It is from a balanced state that we are strongest, both to meet the internal (emotional/mental) and external challenges we face on our way. This holds true also when it comes to preventing physical illnesses or healing them.

In addition to its preventive benefits, Shiatsu contributes to overall health and well-being through its holistic approach. It fosters a deeper connection with ourselves, ensuring that we feel supported on all levels.
